Dentil Course, Cornice, Pediment

1. dentil course (blue)
Bands of small, square, toothlike blocks. Dentil moulding is characteristic in the ornamentation of several orders of architecture like the Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite orders, and sometimes the Doric.
2. cornice (red)
A moulded projection which crowns or finishes the part to which it is affixed. This cornice consists of the angular "raking cornice" at the top, and the "horizontal cornice" along the bottom.
3. pediment (yellow)
The triangular gable end of the roof above the horizontal cornice.
This drawing illustrates the ornamentation over the main entrance to Carpenters' Hall.
